How do i change a list i made in ms word processor to alphabetical ?

Microsoft Word 2003 can sort text, such as a list of peoples' names, class names, names of inventory items, etc. However, the option is somewhat hidden under the %26quot;Sort%26quot; menu.

To sort text, such as a list of names:

1. Highlight the list of names with your mouse.

2. Choose %26quot;Table%26quot; then %26quot;Sort%26quot;.

3. The %26quot;Sort Text%26quot; dialog box should appear. Most likely you will not have to make any changes. However, if you desire, click the %26quot;Descending%26quot; radio button to sort the text in descending order.

4. Click %26quot;OK%26quot; to close the dialog box.How do i change a list i made in ms word processor to alphabetical ?If each of the items to be sorted is in a paragraph by itself, do this:

Then you can choose ascending or descending. It works even if the list is not in a table.

How can i change the clock speed on my computer?

I have a dell optiplex ggx240 with a p4 processor i usually can get to change the clock speed but for some reason i can figure it on a dell since they have soly thre own software and everyting on there computers. Its a p4 running currently at 1.5 i wanna get it to at least 1.8 - 2.0 if possible someone hlep me out ehre im in school for computers but havent gotten that far in depth with them yet all help given is greatly apperciatedHow can i change the clock speed on my computer? So you are saying you want to OVERclock your computer?

Well you can't with a Dell, they don't allow overclocking. Even if it were possible, an optiplex has no airflow and would fry.

Get a real motherboard, real case, and then try.How can i change the clock speed on my computer?Well,I've been in the computers field for the past 10 years, but i never hear a case like yours. The only way to change the clock speed of your computer is to change your processor. You cannot change the clock speed of your processor. How ever you can re-program your processor using low level debugging softwares and Microsoft Assembly Language, but you need to be an expert in computer architechture. Even then you cannot change your processor's clock speed. How can i change the clock speed on my computer? You can do it, however is very dangerous. The processor is designed to work at one speed, and if you overclock that speed its expected life will be shorter because of the heating irradiated. Before change the clocking i will suggest to get a new special cooling fan and replace the original. Then you can play with it going to the bios and changing the clock.

Before i had microsoft word, i had to open it with my word processor. But now i want to change it. Changing your mainboard and processor?

i'm still trying to learn about computers and how they work, so lets say that i found a good deal on a computer but the mainboard only accepts a dual core processor..... what do i need to know and or find out before i log on to newegg and get a motherboard that will handle a quad core?Changing your mainboard and processor? Are you talking about a build-it-yourself kit or a brand-name computer?

For custom machines, you can just pick a motherboard which supports the processor type you want. Many merchants who sell systems like that will often let you specify the changes you want before it's built (which is the way to go)

On brand-name computers like Dell, Sony, HP, Compaq etc- switching the motherboard invalidates the factory-installed operating system. You'd have to buy another retail copy of Windows to install because the preinstalled OEM versions are tied to the original motherboard. If that changes, their restore programs or CDs no longer work.

What applications do you need the computer for? Quads offer big advantages for video editing, 3D design/animation work and heavy mutlitasking, but not for gaming. The 3Ghz dual-core E8400 is much faster at gaming than the 2.4Ghz quad-core Q6600 and actually costs a little less.

The only info you'll really need is the existing computer's physical case form factor (either full ATX, Micro ATX etc) Just log onto Newegg, choose whether you're going Intel or AMD, and start searching motherboards of the appropriate type (Socket 775, for example) and make a note of which processor types are supported.

Be sure to read the customer reviews of motherboards you're considering.Changing your mainboard and processor? You need to know the form factor of the motherboard and the case. Its best to check the manufacturers website to get the exact dimensions of the case just to see if your going to have enough room for power supply unit, fans, hard drives and your add on cards. You want enough room to work in there and allow for some decent airflow.

You need to make sure that your power supply gives enough output for what you need, is there enough RAM slots, PCI express if you want it, does it use SATA or PATA connections for the drives.

Try finding reviews for boards your interested in on sites like toms hardware to give you and idea of what they perform like.

    Default word processor?

When I click on a document, it opens with Notepad, which I

don't rate - it is inconsistant, quirky, and to be honest - rubbbish. I want it to open Word Pad. How do I change the

Then, select WordPad from the list (if it isn't in the list, click Browse and find it.)

    Then check the box that says: %26quot;Always use the selected program to open this kind of file%26quot;

    Click OK and you're done.Default word processor?Right click on the document you want to open, then choose %26quot;open with%26quot;

Browse to c:\windows\system32\write.exeDefault word processor?Notepad...rubbish. Blasphemy!Default word processor? If you know that your documents were created in note pad, you should click on word pad from your asserories in all programs. Once you are there, make sure the file type is in the text mode than retrieve the document. When you are finish with the document, save it.

Remember you have to select the write program when creating text files. Notepad isn't a wordprocessor file. This program is designed for notations. Normally, programmers use this program for documentation.

Wordpad is just a mini wordprocessor file, It normally designed to be use for screen shots. But if you are comfortable of using this program then select it from all programs in accessories.

Just remember always create your documents in the appropriate programs.

and i awnt to change only my Processor to core to duo latest how much wud it cost..I have a p4 2gb ram 3 ghz and nvidia geforce 8600gt video card ?You might need more than just a new CPU depending on your current motherboard make/model. A Core 2 CPU is a Socket 775 package (the configuration of the pins on the CPU chip, which has to fit the CPU socket on the motherboard) so you need to figure out if your motherboard is a 775 or not. Run this program:

    http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_146.z

Look for the line %26quot;Package%26quot; and see if it says about your current CPU. If it is a 775 then you research your motherboard to see what CPUs it can accept: Run CPU-Z (link above) go to the %26quot;mainboard%26quot; tab in it's main window, and google your motherboard by it's Manufacturer and Model.

If your current motherboard is not a 775 then you will probably need a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM and possibly a new video card depending on what you pick for a motherboard.I have a p4 2gb ram 3 ghz and nvidia geforce 8600gt video card ?go to newegg.com and secondly figure out ur motherboard, cuz u can only upgrade processor if it works with the mother board, or ull have to upgrade bothI have a p4 2gb ram 3 ghz and nvidia geforce 8600gt video card ?that would depend if your motherboard supports it. witch i do not think it would. My fifa 10 always runs on one processor speed and it still runs on one processor when i change the affinity to all processors

I am having a new DELL laptop with core i3 which has 4 processor core and whenever i play fifa 10 it show CPU usage on 25 out of 100 which means it runs on only one processor as a result the game works slow.

On the first try it worked fine but on the next day this problem started to happen

Many of the old keyboard shortcuts (CTRL/A, CTRL/S, CTRL/O, for instance) still work.

Most of the old dialog boxes are still there, often one level under the Ribbon's interface. In particular, any group on a Ribbon tab that has a little arrow in the lower right corner leads to that old familiar dialog box when you click the arrow.

I have a 500 in my computer now but I want to put in a 800.I want to install a new processor in my computer, how do I change the settings?First make sure the processor is compatible, then plug it in- make sure theres thermal grease under it, it's plugged in right, and there's a fan on top of it- also with thermal grease on the heat sink if you got one. Make sure to ground yourself too, with an anti static strap if you can. Anyways, compatibility should not be an issue, I don't think that you need drivers for processors, but if anything you should need to change things in the BIOS, by pressing F2 or Delete, depending on the manufacturer, on startup- it tells you.

    Should work.

I have an Intel DP45SG Motherboard in my custom pc and it wont boot up. Lights and fan are on but that is as far as I can get, no video signal. Depending on how involved your project is, include the history of computers. The first computer, how fast it was, how big, and compare it to today.

Also, back in the day, before the Internet was big, people used to exchange information via BBS, Bulletin board systems.

BTW, a cd drive is not primary storage, your hard drive is the primary. A CD writer could be a back up.

    Don't forget tape back-up systems.

You should also include 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 floppies. And, you could compare the size of a modern day 200 Gig drive to a few years ago, then the 1 gig first came out, they were pretty big.

You could go on and on, but hopefully this will give you some ideas.I'm Doing a project on %26quot;Computer Hardware%26quot;, what should I add and which should i talk about first? How about speculating on the future? The hard drive is the last mechanical device left and is the major bottleneck right now. What will replace it? Some interesting stuff is really about Buss speed, and how that effects the overall performance of a computer. (I mean if you have a Processor running at 2.4 ghz but a Bus speed running at only 800 Mhz things start to slow down.

Also in on my computer classes the teacher went through how really Hard drives slow the computer down. I don't remember all the math, but the teacher converted everything to like seconds. (so a processor does so many calculations a second) and then converted the seek time on a hard drive to seconds. and it came down to that as your Processor is waiting for the hard drive to seek it ends up being like 2 days later. Something strange like that it was way interesting. (this was on older IDE hard drives, not the new SATA drives).

    Help Upgrading my Computer?

hey guys, so first let me say a lot of thanks to whoever will take the time to help me out with this :-)

so the reason i wanna upgrade it is because i'm starting school soon, and i will study things that a good home computer will be necessary to run. i'll have to work with Avid express Pro, and edit videos, also alot of photoshop and probebly indesign. maybe after effects too, and titles. other than that i'm gonna probebly work with music editing/producing, but that's less important right now..

    so, here's what i have -

    processor: intel 2 duo E6400, 2.13ghz clock, 1066mhz side bus, s775 2MB(L2) cache

    motherboard: gigabyte 965P-DS4 s775 conroe, DDRii800, 2xpcie-e

    Ram: two - ddr11667 512 kingston

video card: sapphire X1650 pro 512mb DDRii, TV, DVI, PCI-E

hard drives: very nice WD 160gb, and external mybook WD 1000gb(with firewire)

that's the important things i guess. now, from my understing, i don't need a very good video card to work on editing, and i think what i have isn't bad and should be enough(am i right about it?) now since changing the processor is a big deal, i guess my best would be on getting better and more ram, the question is how much? and what kind?

anyways, so if you have the patience and kindness to help me out here i would really appriciate it, i know it's a long thread and all, but it's just that i vaguely have any clue about these stuff, so i figured nothing can be wrong in asking. so thanks in advance :-)Help Upgrading my Computer?Since you will be using this for school work, and probably not gaming, you wouldn't get a Dual Core. Quad core provides the highest performance for multi-tasking, and running programs, dual core for gaming.

I would suggest for the CPU: Intel Quad Core 2.66GHZ Q9450. It is priced at around $300 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

If it is out of your budget, the next best thing would be to get a Intel Quad Core 2.4GHZ Q6600. This will cost you at around $180 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

    ----

That's CPU out of the way, since you will be using quite a few programs, of course you will need some more RAM.

I suggest a Kingston 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB). 2GB should be enough, and you can also use your 2x 512MB RAM Sticks along with the 2GB RAM as well if you have enough PCI slots.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

    ---

I have also checked if your motherboard is compatible with the hardware I have stated above, and it is. The Video Card seems decent, since you won't be doing much gaming or 3D rendering.

You have enough Hard Drive space, thanks to your external hard drive. Tip: Don't store data that you will use often on your external, external hard drive has slower read/write speed so it will take longer to read/write files and applications. So store the data you use most on your internal, and the data which is not viewed or used often on your external.

For the CPU and RAM upgrade, it will only cost you around $400. (Newegg prices).

Note: Newegg is for USA only.

I hope I have helped. Good luck with schooling!

Computer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?

Ok, so here's where I have left off from.

I had a computer problem only a few days ago, and I (well, the Yahoo! Community did...) solved the problem by changing the PSU. I had a 450W in, but I replaced it with a 250W and Kapow! it fires into life!

I managed to reformat the HDD I had in (80GB) and after installation, put in a 200GB HDD as a slave. It worked fine, and I started installing all my old programs and stuff, chuffed that I have my old desktop back working.

I turn it off at 2am, and once I got back from work at 12.15pm the following day, I pushed the power button and nothing happened. I couldn't believe it!

I thought that the PSU had blown, so I went and replaced it with a 230W PSU... but nothing has happened. I know its not the PSU because there is a green light that glows when power is getting to it, and come on, it was working yesterday! And I know its not the actual power switch, because I thought it was that yesterday, but I changed it and it never solved the problem, so when I changed the PSU and put the old one back in, it turned on. Its a new Graphics card (less powerful, but now the graphics actually work...) that's in it, a new P4 2.4Ghz CPU, new Abit BE7 motherboard, a formatted HDD and a now formatted slave HDD. This is the 3rd PSU I have put in it, but as you can tell I don't think there was anything wrong with the old PSU... I just can't put my finger on what has went wrong, as nobody has touched this presumably fine working PC.

Please note that I have scrapped the 450W as it was the problem before. I still have the 250W and I currently have the 230W installed. I have tried turning it off and disconnecting from the power source for a while.

    UPDATE

I have taken the advice from part 2 of this problem that the Yahoo! Community have given me, and instead of going down in power, I have went up to 400W power supply, as I went on a website and it says that my computer needs 271W of power. I borrowed a 400W PSU and threw it in. Result? Still doesn't work.

I went and changed the CPU from a Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor to an Intel Celeron 2.4GHz processor thinking that possibly the processor has fried... which I doubt because it was working fine one night, 10 hours later when off it doesn't!!!

Does anyone know whats went wrong here? I don't think its PSU problems, I dont think there's Processor problems. Im getting really frustrated and just want this god damn thing to work! Someone once suggested that maybe my power surge has blown it up, which got me thinking, because when I got a power cut a few times, the comp stopped working ,and what I used to do was disconnect the power for 20 mins and reconnect, and it would work. But the thing is, there was no power cut. I know this because I would have had to reset my alarm which I hate doing, and I never had to.

The person who gives me the correct answer that sorts it gets a thumbs up and 10 points.

    Thank you!

    %26gt;%26gt; UPDATE %26gt;%26gt;

I have rebuilt this computer 3 times today in the hope that it would work. I have changed the Processor to an Intel Celeron (one I seen working) thinking it was the processor, and was starting to get frustrated and started looking at new motherboards on eBay to help solve this problem. I then started looking at the pins that operate the power switches and went on the manual to look and see if they were on the right way. According to a guide on-line, the coloured one indicates a positive, and the black/white one is a negative. Anyway, I clicked a few pages ahead on the Adobe manual and seen how to clear the CMOS, and I thought %26quot;hey, the comps not coming on, but I'll check anyway%26quot; and low and behold, I think I have found the problem!

The original jumper that was located there was missing. the CMOS wasn't being activated! So I ran to my friends house and basically tore their spare AMD computer and took a jumper from it. I went home and fitted it onto the CMOS and the %26quot;vvVVV...%26quot; of the fans kick in, the LED's light up... I thought %26quot;oh YES!!!%26quot; and then %26quot;VVVvv...%26quot; shut down. I try again and the same happens. I get about one second of activation and then it dies. But at least I knew it wasn't a power issue! My guess is I must have knocked it out when I put in the new graphics card.

Does anyone know what I should do to get it running... say... a good few years? Does anyone know if a CMOS jumper is different from a HDD jumper? I wouldn't imagine it was, but if it is, then I don't know what to do. Or is it the new Processor I put in that's causing the shut down?

Anyone with the correct answer and allows this machine to run gets 10 points!Computer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?sigh....

im guessing it's one of your software thats screwing the computer up...

    try reusing the 450 psu

    and this time

put ur comp and stand -by or hibernate if it survives

    ------------------------------

unless you actually wiped the HD again and used the same parts as it came from your %26quot;original build%26quot;(if you cant use the original build try finding differnt parts)

    ------------------------------

it COULD be your MotherBoardComputer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?I have seen this happen when (believe it or not) the CMOS battery dies. Only certain machines WON'T POST without a battery (or a dead one) but it DOES happen.

The jumper does not differentiate between HDD and Motherboard jumpers, they are all the same. The new proc COULD be a culprit as well, if the procs are bad, fans may power up, lights may light, but it won't post. Try swapping the CPU out, but check that CMOS battery first.

    Changing voltage on processor??

I currently have a AMD Dual Core 5600+ 64 X2 Socket AM2 processor. The normal clock is 2.6GHZ. I was able to overclock it to 3.00GHZ just by changing the FSB. but it is unstable if I go any higher, but the chip still remains below 50C so I was wondering how I would increase to voltage to the chip in order to push it even further (since I heard that helps stability at higher clocks) but my motherboard is a MSI K9N I believe, but I have 2 computers I am trying to overclock, but none of the motherboards have the option to increase to processor's voltage, I can only increase the voltage of the RAM on one of the motherboards. can anybody help tell me how I might get a aftermarket bios or a freeware program for windows so I can raise the voltage much higher? I tried a AMD clock program but would not let me increase the voltage anymore than .5Vs higher than what it was already set at.

What are you trying to do? Fry the CPU?Changing voltage on processor??Hey, if you are unable to change the core voltage in your BIOS, try updating your BIOS from the manfacturers website, this may solve your problem, if not, you will have to replace your board with another one capable of a good overclocking ability, able to change v cores, frequency, ram timing etc. hope this helps.Changing voltage on processor??Too much voltage can damage a component but the right amount can help stability. In regards to your processor, raising the voltage with overclocking will bring stability but can also raise temps. I typically recommend not going over 1.45volts with air cooling setups. High voltages over time can cause electromigration but we're talking like 1.5-1.6+ volts 24/7.

Just make your best judgment and when you start to see the temperatures rise, drop the voltages and keep testing.Changing voltage on processor??No more man! youre right on your way to frying your processor.

How can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?

I Know most people are trying to find ways to speed their computer up but not me. I Have a P4 processor 3.2 GHZ installed within my laptop (dont ask me why) but the result is my laptop overheats so quickly I can not use it long enough to do what I want.

I read somewhere that you could change the settings of your processor so it runs at a lower speed. Any one know how this is or can be done? How can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?I don't think you can slow down the processor speed enough to get it to run cooler. Why is your processor running so hot? You should keep the fans clear of everything, IE. don't put your laptop on a bed or surrounded by blankets.. this will get the laptop some room to disperse the heat and won't freeze up or crash.

You get special stands with fans on them where you can put the laptop on .. and they will help cool the thing down.

If nothing helps, take it back to the store and ask them to look at it. You might need more heat conductor gel or have them put the cpu heatsink back on it properly. How can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?Sounds like you have a desktop chip in there ;) I'd swing by the BIOS when it starts up and see if you can lower the Front-side Bus to CPU multiplier. How can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?You might have room for manouevre with Notebook Hardware Control (requires .netframework 2.0)

If you dont have a toshiba, this is probably not much use to you.How can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?as people like to overclock their p.c,s and laptops ,their is a few users who underclock their computers, and the main reason is the same as yours, overheating

however ,your laptop shouldnt be overheating like it does, laptops are designed to be able to cope with the high clock speeds that the pentium 4 uses,so if it is still under warranty i would send it to be looked at as it sounds like a fan in the laptop is malfunctioning, and this is what is making the laptop so hot when used

if it were a tower, you could easily add extra ventelation, such as a rear chassis fan which only costs 8 but a laptop is a bit more difficult, that is why i recommend proffesinal advice

however ,for a short term fix,why not go into power options in control panel, and see if you can change any settings to ease the laptops resources, also it may not be your processor,it could be a overheating battery,to check if its your processor just press ctrl+alt+delete and when the windows task manager appears look at the processor usage at the bottom, and leave it on it for a while,if your laptop gets warmer, and the usage stays around 3% it isnt your processor,it must be your battery or even your graphic chip(or a defective fan)

either way, like i said, you should seek professinal advice,do not try and underclock(slow down) your processor,as any messing with your processor(overclocking or underclocking)is dangerous when you dont fully understand what you are doing,it can ruin your processor for good

however if you feel brave enough to do the job your self, its a case of going into bios(setup) press delete on start up ,and in set up look for power management or a similar named item and then its a case of lowering the clock speed bit by bit,do not lower it in one big amount, clock speeds are made up of 2 things, front service bus(fsb) and multiplyer, multilply thee two together and you get your clock speed

    for example fsb 200mhz.....multiplyer 13.5 x

    clock speed.....2.9 ghz

some times you lower using the multiplier but sometimes these are hard locked to stop overclocking ,and you can only use the fsb, then it is best to raise or lower these by the smallest possible frequency each time..allways save and exit each entry ,but be carefull overclocking can damage the processor and underclocking, well i dont know anyone who,s done this,so its a rough guess that i wouldnt lower it more than 400mhz taking it down to 2.8ghz

the rule of thumb is safe overclocking is normally 10 to 20% of the clock speed so if you apply that when underclocking you should be safe, that means you can underclock between 320 to 640 mhz but i would go for 400mhz lower

    any probs let me know

good luckHow can I slow down or control the processor speed on my lap top?Computer might over heat when the fan gets blocked with dust and hair. Clean it out. It helped in my case.

I'm writing a paper for my spanish class and need to check some spelling.I have windows works word processor and i need to change the language from english to spanish...how do I?I'm not sure what Windows Works is, but here is what I do:

Click on %26quot;Start%26quot; at the bottom left of your screen.

    Click on Control Panel

    Click on %26quot;Keyboard%26quot;

    Click on %26quot;Insert Locales%26quot; tab.

    Choose Spanish and click %26quot;OK%26quot;

This switches your language however, if you don't have the language dictionary installed from your original software, it won't work. Good luck.

Note: Once you switch the language, your keyboard will be set for Spanish, so some of your numerical and symbols keys will be different. You can switch back by clicking on the %26quot;language%26quot; icon in your bottom tray (on the right.)

  • I think I just messed up my computer.....?

I have an AMD Duron processor. I was messing around in the settings menu or whatever you call it (in startup when you press delete) and I changed my processor speed from 100 mhz to 133mhz and now my computer wont boot- it just keeps on restarting and nothing is shown on the screen. Please help, I know how to take parts of my computer and stuff if I have to.I think I just messed up my computer.....?You need to reset yiur BIOS, there is a jumper block next to the BIOS battery, change the jumper to the other set of pins for about 30 seconds, and then put it back on the original pins. Your manual will show you what jumper to move and how to do it.

The other way is to remove the battery for about 30 seconds, and then replace it.

How does the Ghz for a computer processor affect the computer's speed?

Basically, I'm asking how much of a computer's speed relies on the Ghz of the processor? Also, how does that change with different types of processors? To what extent would you take into consideration the Ghz of the processor when purchasing a computer? How does the Ghz for a computer processor affect the computer's speed? The more Ghz the better. When buying a computer you should always get the one with the faster processor, but you have to look at other specs too - how much ram a pc has can also affect its speed - the more the better, what kind of video card it has and other things like that. Don't worry about real fast processors unless your into gaming and 2.0 - 2.4 intel or amd will do the job if your into regular everyday web surfing and emailing, but if your a gamer go for 2.4 or faster dual core processor
