How can I find out what mother board my computer is using?

Without opening the case, is there a way I can find out what modle of mother board my systems is using?

I think it is an intel but not sure of modle/size

  • Do i need to install OS again to hard drive if I change processors and motherboard?

OK. So here's the thing. I'm using this computer at home that is pretty old. I think I got it from back in 2005 or 2006.

I learned from a few friends how to put together a custom computer, and i wanted to replace some parts on my old computer. I wanted to replace the motherboard, processor, RAM, and give the system a new graphics card, (and depending on how much power it uses, I may have to give it a new PSU)

Currently it uses an AMD Athlon dual core @ 2.0 GHz and has 1 GB of RAM, and I find myself being unable to do much multi tasking on it.

But, i wanted to know. If i do replace the CPU, MoBo, and ram, but leave the hard drive as is, could I just use it as it was, or is it gonna ask me to format the hard disk and install an OS?

I don't have an OS disk, so I was just wondering if I could just resume using my computer from where I left off or not.Do i need to install OS again to hard drive if I change processors and motherboard?Unfortunately, no. You have specific drivers for one motherboard, and when you replace the motherboard, the operating system will give problems because it does not detect the same hardware. But it is always better to do a clean reinstall, your computer will run faster and smoother.

Although problem is, you do not have the OS disk. So your only other option is to buy Windows 7, or to download Linux.Do i need to install OS again to hard drive if I change processors and motherboard?yes you need to install againDo i need to install OS again to hard drive if I change processors and motherboard?Hi ! After changing the Mobo, the new motherboard will be having new drivers for the hardware it has on it, like audio and VGA ... Hence, I suppose if you try to boot using the old OS, you will get a BSOD error ... Better reinstall the OS .. Take backups from OS drive right now ...Do i need to install OS again to hard drive if I change processors and motherboard? It depends on the operating system, which you didn't tell us.

Update: Vista's actually pretty good. The two biggest issues are: 1) If you go from a single core to a multi-core, you have to manually change the HAL. 2) You need to install the drivers for the system drive on the old machine before you change hardware if they differ. (Or you need to use a special tool to do this, such as Acronis Universal Restore.)

Can i change my intel celeron to an intel core processor?

if i changed only my processor, will i need to buy something(ram, motherboard or stuff) so it wil run smoothly?

how much $ do u think i'll need to spend over this things? Can i change my processor? Some motherboards do support both Intel Celeron and Intel Core 2 Duo processors, without any information on your computer make and model number, or motherboard, cannot say for sure. If you needed a new motherboard, you're probably looking at rought $80-100 for motherboard, $60-75 for processor, and then some more for RAM if that needs to be changed. It's a lot of work, and if you don't have someone knowledgeable to do the work for you, you could be looking at a big paper-weight at the end of it. If you want to make it faster, i recommend buying RAM. If youre maxed out with that, and you insist on a new chip, i would tell you to buy one of the exact same kind, only buy one with as much L2 Cache memory as you can.

L2 Cache memory is memory on the chip itself. This is about a thousand times faster than RAM.Can I change my Processor on a Laptop? You can upgrade your processor if its the same socket type. But i wouldn't reccomend it cause the HEAT-SINK would have to be remodified to handle the heat of the laptop%26gt; you might get more crashes and the laptop can overheat if not done properly.

My computer came stock with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7200. i'm planning on upgrading to an E8500. how big of a performance difference will there be? is it worth the upgrade? thanksProcessor change question?actually, it won't get you anything at all.

you can achieve the E8500 clock speeds on the E7200 just by upping the FSB to 1333 Mhz, provided your motherboard supports it.

i'm an AMD guy though, so I'll recommend that over Intel anyday.

Yes, as the previous poster said, but, additionally, you will need to know the Model Number which is usually printed near one of the corners of the Motherboard. How to know the capacity of motherboard when trying to change the processor with higher speed?read the manual that came with it, or go to the manufacturer's website.

How much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor?

i know with the current processor i can only upgrade to 1gb and i know it takes the DDR. the computer runs on xp home edition and i just want to speed it up. what processor could i get and if i get it how much memory can I add to my computer? i want to make it fast so whatever is the highest i will take, as long as the computer takes it.

Thank you.How much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor?Changing the processor will not change your desktop RAM limitation. You'll have to actually change out your motherboard.

If you decide to go with a new mother board then you'll need to find out what type of mother board will fit your PC case. Also if you get a new mother board then you will probably have to buy a new processor and a different type of RAM. This can become costly depending on the manufacturer also how fast/new of a processor and mother board you want. There is a good chance your old RAM will not work in the new mother board and you'll need to purchase new RAM.

Depending on what your needs are, it may be more cost affective to purchase a new system but you usually get more bang for your buck if you know how to build your own system. Then you can find the best deals on the individual hardware and some you can scavenge off your current desktop if need be.

For Windows XP the minimum RAM recommended is 2 GIG in my opinion and for Windows Vista I've heard to have at least 4 GIG.

How much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor?1. Contact or google the Motherboard manufacturer for the specifications of the Mother Board. It will tell you the type of CPU you can install and maximum amount of RAM and type it can hold.

    2. One gig of RAM for any computer now a days is hardly anything, especially with Windows Vista which could possibly require almost 700 MB to operate itself, never mind programs.

    Sarge

Dial 1 for English - Dial 2 for Dial ToneHow much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor?usually, Sony vaio are laptops and you can only upgrade the ram up to 2gb and in laptops you cannot change the processor.

if it is a desktop, then a good cpu is the Intel core 2 quad 2.4ghz.

depending on the motherboard, but most will hold up to 4gb of ram

good luckHow much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor? It depends on the model of desktop. If you go out to google and put in your model and ram or memory you should be able to find out what the capacity is on your desktop.

You also might be able to upgrade your CPU, but that is liable to be expensive and you will probably be kind of limited in the upgrade. Again this depends on what the model of desktop.

If you update your question with a desktop model that would help in answering your upgrade questions. How much ram can i add to a 512mb ram desktop, SONY VAIO, if i change the processor?can you be a little more specific in terms of processor motherboard, but as a rule of thumb if the computer is more than 3 years old no matter what you do you'll never get the same performance gains as even a low spec new computer

Is it possible to change the processor of my CPU or upgrade it? how can i do it? ?

depends about your motherboard.if it`s too old and you want to put example one intel core , you can`t.if you can tell us what motherboard you have it will be more simple. Is it possible to change the processor of my CPU or upgrade it? how can i do it? ?If you mean to upgrade it, then it depends on the motherboad and the processor you have at this time.

Note: CPU is the processor (centeral processing unit)

Some motherboards, although very few, have the processor fixed to the motherboard, unable to change.

Some AMD 3000+ socket A chips were installed this way.

Changing a CPU on a motherboard is a fairly simple operation, but it must be done with great care. The main thing is to get the heatsink seated properly and have the heat transfer grease making full contact between the heatsink and CPU. It is a lot easier to do with the motherboard removed from the tower. Is it possible to change the processor of my CPU or upgrade it? how can i do it? ?Very much so, but if your not good with computer I'd suggest going to a Computer Repairs Shop and get them too do it.

  • How can you improve your P III without having to change the processor?

You could get the highest speed RAM that your motherboard can handle, and/or the most it can. then overclock your P3, but overclocking can be dangerous.

    *EDIT* Promo-

Says that you cant overclock a P3, you can overclock anything you want if you try hard enough, hell, I overclocked my Xbox360 CPU and GPU. But he also says RAM wont do anything, when in turn, it can do somthing, but only if you get high speed RAM. Or somthing VERY easy. Things to consider: Make sure your motherboard socket can take the new processor. When you install the new process, make sure to your plenty of thermal grease like Arctic 5 i believe.

Usually swapping processors is unhinging some clips. But seriously, make sure your motherboard can take the new processor. How to change my CPU Processor?A Pentium 3 is not compatible with a Pentium 2 socket. You would need to replace the motherboard too.

Pentium 3 motherboards are getting hard to find as they haven't been manufactured for about 6 years, an eternity in computer time. You may be able to find one on EBay. You need to ind one compatible with whatever socket your Pentium 3 uses.

Better yet, replace the motherboard and processor with new ones. You can purchase matched motherboards and processors at numerous places on the Internet. But unless you can do it yourself, you won't gain much. Avoid paying someone to do it. This is because by the time you purchase all the needed parts, and pay someone to install them, you are well past the price of an entry level Dell.

How easy it it to change a processor inside a pc? and the RAM?

What tools are needed? How easy it it to change a processor inside a pc? and the RAM?It's very easy, but you have to be very careful and make sure you are grounded so there is no static electricity. You just need a phillipshead screwdriver to get the side of the case off. The RAM just pops in the slot and the CPU is under a heatsink and fan assembly that you have to remove first. How easy it it to change a processor inside a pc? and the RAM?Incredibly easy. A screwdriver to remove the lid from the unit (some systems you don't even need a screwdriver). RAM can be changed by hand (little clips hold the RAM pcb in place. You can also change the processor by hand, may need a small flathead screw driver to remove the Processor after you have taken off the fan and heatsink (metal thing). Make sure you're somewhere to reduce the amount of static. Like not on a carpet etc in case it damages the boards as you hold them. An anti-static wrist-band is quite cheap however if you want to be doubly sure. How easy it it to change a processor inside a pc? and the RAM?RAM is easy - providing you have the same type. They just push into slots on the motherboard and are held by clips at the ends. Make sure static is discharged, preferably by wearing a wrist strap connected to the PC frame. Processor is going to be more difficult - again it must be the same slot type. The heatsink is mounted on to the processor using special heat conducting gel.How easy it it to change a processor inside a pc? and the RAM?The tools are very basic, a few screwdriver.

The ram is easy just be careful to pull it out along the correct angle. And to get a snap when you push the ram in. Again do not push too hard, just enough.

The CPU is harder, but doeable, find a good how to site with pictures. Maybe MaximumPC.com. processor for pensium 2. i have Dell laptop. it does not start now b,cos i need to change processor. how can i get itI am looking for processor for pensium 2 laptop.how can i get it. help me pl?Honestly, I would suggest you just changing your laptop for several reasons. Due to the fast advancement of computers, a pentium two laptop would be lucky to sell for 150 dollars. Since you have a pentium two LAPTOP, fixing/changing the processor would not be easily and paying a service fee would already get you half way to buying a new system. As well, I would doubt that you can find a new PEntium 2 processor on the market due to age. The only way would probably by second hand such as through eBay, though that method is not recommeneded for things such as a processor.I am looking for processor for pensium 2 laptop.how can i get it. help me pl?Go to Dell's website. They should have information on what is placed in their computers.

However, since you are researching a Pentium 2 class PC, you may have difficulty finding this information due to the age of the PC.

I am willing to change my motherboard too. But I need to know which motherboard will fit into my desktop for AMD processor? I'll appreciate answer in great detail ThanksHow can I change my processor to AMD 64 core dual? I got HP pavilion 700 (Intel Pentium 4) series desktop?Yes, you will have to get a new motherboard since no motherboard supports both Intel and AMD processors. Your HP Pavilion is mostly likely an ATX case so you will need to buy an ATX-form factor motherboard. Any ATX-form motherboard whether for Intel or AMD CPU's will fit into an ATX case so you don't have to worry about anything on that front.

Just make sure the motherboard that you buy supports the socket you will need to use for your new AMD processor (For example: 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3 are the different types of sockets used by different AMD CPU's depending on when they were released).

Speaking of which, you may or may not have to buy new memory sticks (RAM) depending on whether the motherboard supports DDR2 or DDR3 memory.

How hard is it to change a processor?

Hey there, everyone. I've been considering changing up my computer's processor, as it's far behind the times(Pentium II). Only problem is I remember hearing a while ago that it's more trouble than it's worth, and you'd probably be better off getting a new computer. So, how hard is it exactly to replace a processor, anyways? And are there any hurdles I should look out for?How hard is it to change a processor? No its not hard at all. But if you are using a PII you would be wasting your time and money on an upgrade. There would be virtually no increase in speed that would be noticeable and because anything you would buy has long been obsolete, it would have to be used.

Time for a new computer or stay with what you have. How hard is it to change a processor?pentium II?

    you need a new computer.

pentium II chips use a different way of connecting to motherboards than modern chips so unless you plan on buying a new motherboard...and plus a computer that uses pentium II is far out dated. when you get a new computer you will astounded by it's speed.

but had you had a modern motherboard with a modern lga 775 socket it's actually really easy to change them out. i recently built a computer so i have first hand experience.

How to increase my processor speed?

apart from overclocking, change to a better, faster processor...im running on amd turion 64 mobile mk36...2.0 ghz..so,changing processor is not an option....any suggestion? How to increase my processor speed? You can't really increase your processor speed without overclocking it. What you can do is:

    1) Add more memory - This is probably the single biggest thing you can do to speed up a slow computer. Unless you have at least 1Gb of ram, you could use more.

    2) Eliminate unnecessary programs that are running in the background. Many programs, when installed, set themselves up to be run at start-up. Removing the unnecessary ones (using msconfig) can significantly speed up your computer.

    3) Clean up temporary files and defrag your hard drive. Both of which can help speed up your computer by making slow disk I/O operations a little quicker.

Other than that, you just need a faster processor if you want a faster computer. How to increase my processor speed?the only thing I can think of is to increase RAM, but first check what's the maximum that u'r computer can hold so as not to buy unnecessary RAM that u can't use

I have a MacBook late 2008 Unibody can i change the processor from a core 2 duo intel to an i5 or i7 chip?

I'm pretty sure they aren't for sale yet but they are both intel chips so i would like to know if and maybe how i can change the processors.I have a MacBook late 2008 Unibody can i change the processor from a core 2 duo intel to an i5 or i7 chip? No.

The biggest problem you would face there would be the fact that the Core 2 Duo are a socket 775 CPU, and the i5 and i7 are a socket 1156 and a socket 1355 respectively. This is assuming that the Macbooks use a socketed motherboard. Since the Macbooks are laptops I would assume the CPUs are soldered to the motherboard (however, I could be wrong as not ALL laptops have soldered CPUs).

If the CPU is soldered, it's VERY difficult to remove and not damage the motherboard. It's probably cheaper to simply buy a new Macbook.

The second problem would be the motherboard wouldn't support an i5 or i7 since they weren't in existence at the time.

Simply put, you can't upgrade the processor.I have a MacBook late 2008 Unibody can i change the processor from a core 2 duo intel to an i5 or i7 chip? You can't... The Core 2 Duo's and the new %26quot;i%26quot; series are different chipsets, they require different motherboards

Can i change the processor on an hp laptop?

If so, how much will it cost to upgrade an amd processor on a hp dv6000? And i also heard something about overclocking, what is it and how much will it cost? Can i change the processor on an hp laptop?Don't take this the wrong way. I don't mean to express any negativity or disrepect. If you have to ask if you can change the processor then you probably don't have enough experience to do so. I've got experience doing it on less than 20 laptops, but enough to know that you need to label each screw that comes out of a laptop (like use an egg carton to hold them all and label each location). I know that you need basic knowlege of where the cabels are hidden so that when you pull on a part, it doesn't rip out the cable hidden beneath it. I know that the cost of the processor is most likely more than the laptop is worth, and if you have to pay for labor you really should forget it. OPTIMISTICALLY though you can replace most if not all processors and it can be free if you know where to get them and how to do it! Good luck! Start with the Goodwill in Austin and Houston Texas. They have GoodWills for computers only there! Can i change the processor on an hp laptop?you could but you would have to pay more than it would cost to get a new computer and because of the socket type you would be limited to buying the exact same type of cpu that you already have(or risk wasting a lot of money and maybe damaging your motherboard). This will probably cost more than a $1000. So just pay someone to back up your current hard drive and get a new computer. You will be better off later on.Can i change the processor on an hp laptop? You may change your processor of your HP laptop but it's recommended that you check your motherboard specification. I have amd sempron processor on my computer its good or not?

how to change processorI have amd sempron processor on my computer its good or not?sempron processors are designed for basic tasks. they are generally on the low-end of the market. they are decent if that is all you are doing. for multimedia and performance tasks, you would likely want to upgrade.

you may be able to upgrade to an athlon (a faster single-core), an athlon x2 (dual-core), or possibly a phenom (tri-core and quad-core). it would depend on your motherboard on which cpus would work, and you may have to update your bios.

How to change the processor and motherboard in my Dell1525?

Need links to instructions or advice on how to do it.

I want to put in a Duo Core 2 2.4ghzHow to change the processor and motherboard in my Dell1525?It is unfortunately likely impossible to change the motherboard, but as mentioned before the chip CAN be replaced. The reason for this is that mobos for laptops are designed specifically for the OEM it is installed into. Most laptop CPUs can be accessed either under the backing or under the ram cover, I would first remove the ram cover first to see if the chip is accessible from here, if not then you have a long night ahead of you, oftenly removing the entire bottom cover from a laptop requires you remove ALL of the underbelly screws as well as the rear screws, the screen bezel screws, the screws underneath the battery and in some cases the keyboard must be removed and a few have to be removed underneath this (immediately following removing the bezel screws). A good start would be a tackle box to organize and label all of the screws as chances are quite a few of them will be of all different lengths. To remove the processor you will need a large (#9) jeweler screwdriver and you will need to rotate the screw counter clockwise. Make sure before you install the new chip that you procure a grounding strip because processors are ESD (electrostatic discharge) sensitive. How to change the processor and motherboard in my Dell1525?Doesn't Dell offer 24/7 phone assistance? Thanks a million.Could someone tell me how to change a processor on a dell dimension 2400 desktop?sorry, but its not possible without replacing the motherboard and the memory as well.

the core 2 duo requires a motherboard with an LGA775 Socket, (the place where the processor actually plugs in). The core 2 duo's also require a newer style memory which is DDR2 (double-data rate version 2).

your dell dimension has an intel celeron 2.4 ghz which uses a motherboard with a socket 478 on it, as well as just regular DDR RAM (memory).

you definitely won't even be able to get a core 2 duo near the socket 478 on your motherboard, have a quick look at the differences in the source pics.

  • Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)?

Is it a good Idea, also, how can I do it?

I have a microsoft Windows XP Version 2002, Media center Edition, Service Pack 3 right now and was thinking of making it to Vista

Can anyone tell me if thats a good Idea? Also, Is it possible to do for free? like downloading from online the Vista and installing it on my computer.

    I will vote best answer

Thanks in advance, and if there is any other info you want me to tell, just tell me.Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)?xp works better than vista, and then alot of components doesnt work with vista; printers, etc

for the free part it is impossible, with windows you always have to pay, should be between 150 and 200$

hope it help, IsaChange processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)?well, if you are happy with xp, dont do it. Your computer may be too slow for vista. If you really want vista, get a new computer. You will need at least 2 gigs of ram(three is reccomended) at at least 667mhz. for vista, and at least a dual core processor, it supports pentium4s, but itl be real slow. also you will need a graphics card with at least 128mb video memory DEDICATED NOT INTEGRATED for vista.Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)? If you have a genuine version of XP, I would not mess that up installing some pirated version of Vista. For legal reasons, of course, but also because whatever cracks are available now, they most likely will fail in future updates and you'll find yourself stuck searching for another fix or buying it eventually.

Also, I'd only recommend the upgrade if your computer is beefy enough in its specs to handle it. I would have at least 2GB of RAM and a CoreDuo or Core2Duo CPU (P4 is questionable). Vista install alone is about 10GB vs XP's 2.5GB or so (HD space used). Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)?I wouldn't suggest it. I have no experience using Vista, but many major tech sites don't recommend it due to the amount of bugs in the OS. Windows will be releasing Window 7 in 2009, and that will probably be more worth it.

It's not possible to download Vista for free as opposed to buying it in a store, unless you got an illegal copy from a friend, but if you installed it, and then went online, it's possible for that to be tracked. You're better off getting a new copy of an operating system.Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)? Can't tell from that. It's much more a matter of what your hardware is. Check the minimum requirements for Vista, then double them for reality. Microsoft tends to low-ball the minimum.

Hope that helps.Change processor from XP to Vista (+10 points)? No, it's a bad idea, Jon.

Vista as an upgrade to a PC generally results in an exceedingly poor user experience. PCs made prior to about 4-5 months *after* Vista's release will rarely have enough power to run Vista smoothly.

As a tech, Vista (SP1) seems fine to me now, but it should only be installed on a very modern, properly configured, multi-core PC, with lots of RAM and solid graphics upgrades. There are many surprises and compatibility issues involved with a Vista Upgrade or full install.

The current edition of Media Center is 2005, so if you have the 2002 version, then your PC is (probably?) from pre-2005. If that's the case, you dont have enough power to run Vista well.

If your system is much older than a purchase from late 2007, keep Windows XP.

If you have a system purchased in the past year, and if that system has at least 2GB of RAM, and has video upgrades, then Vista is a plausible option for you.

You do need to know what you are doing to properly install an operating system, and you may need to find drivers that are not easily found.

If your printers are over 2-3 years old, then you should be prepared to replace them as well. They may work just fine, or they may not work in Vista. Check first.

Do not attempt to find, locate, download, or otherwise circumvent the law, just to install Vista. The risks associated with such a search would almost certainly land you with a virus-infested copy, and probably land you in court, not long after you tried to use it online.

Get on to newegg.com and buy it, like a good citizen, if you choose to go the Vista route.

    I hope that helps!

You might be able to adjust the cpu upwards in the bios settings, but be careful! You can toast your cpu and motherboard. You have to do it in slow increments - up a notch - and go with that for a few days. Increasing the rate causes heat, your fans may not be able to cope with it adequately. also puts a strain on your power supply.

    I want to change processor?

i really dont understand all the numbers and Ghz and stuff so, the only thing i want is to see which processor is better for gaming. Please give me the name of the processor and where to buy, also how to install, or how much would it cost if i send it to a computer specialistI want to change processor? It sounds like you want a state of the art gaming machine, if that is the case you will need more than just a new processor. #1. You need to decide which processor you want to use. #2. Then find a motherboard that supports that processor. #3. Then find a graphics card that fits the motherboard....%26amp; so on. Basicly build a new system.

Or you could go to the site of the mfgr of your motherboard that you now have %26amp; find out what the fastest processor yoiu can put on it %26amp; try that, then beef up your graphics card.I want to change processor? It would have helped if you would have told us what Hardware you already had. with processors, they have a certain number of PINS on them, and the motherboard is made to take this number of pins! So the only processor you could upgrade to is one with the same number of pins (and even sum of that you would have to update your BIOS maybe).

usually for games upgrading your graphic card is a better idea (unless your processor is a piece of crap). Graphic cards would have more of a rang of what you could use. (If you use AGP, or PCIxE).

Look into Graphic cards first! or realize we need to know what you have in your computer now to help at all!I want to change processor?Only way to do that is to go to your computers motherboard cpu support page and see what cpu your board will run and what bios you need to run it. If you %26quot;don't understand%26quot; I suggest you settle on the biggest cpu your board can handle with its present bios as flashing the bios improperly can ruin your motherboard. Also, if the cpu you want requires a certain revision of your motherboard then make sure you have at least that revision, It shows the revision of the board near the model number on the board itself. Bear in mind that, if for example, you have a 478 pin motherboard, that does not mean you can run every 478pin cpu made.

You may want to take it somewhere and get an estimate of what upgrades are available. If you opt to do that I strongly suggest you make sure BEFORE you take it in that the estimate will be done for free as a lot of shops charge to do estimates. Video games are effected by 1---video card 2---ram 3---cpu, in that order so you should make sure you have the video card and ram departments covered before you upgrade your cpu.I want to change processor?you didn't provide your hardware specs and hence can't tell what you have and what you need. you may have to go for a new PC if you want to upgrade your processor as the latest processor(which is Intel's core 2 extreme or amd's quad core)

could well be incompatible with your motherboard. i would suggest you to give some time in at at least learning the basics which just require an hour or two if you are familiar with Internet and know how to search. and then decide by your own what is good and what is not for you.I want to change processor?Generally the precessor is matched to the motherboard, so you will probably have to replace both. Check with you motherboard manufacturer to see what processors are compatible with your motherboard.

How to change processor to higher mghz?

You can't. What you have is what is what you get.How to change processor to higher mghz?Your processor can't be changed - it has a fixed limit of Mhz or Ghz. For example, most of them have around 2.3 Ghz capabilities or somewhere around there.

The only way to get a higher limit would be to buy a new processor (difficult to install) or a new motherboard/computer altogether.

Your computer doesn't always use the full limit, depending on what tasks you're performing and what software you have running at the time. How to change processor to higher mghz? You have to go to your bios, to get there press either del. or continually press F8 when your computer is booting up. Once you are there you have to find your processor settings and change them. WARNING! This is not a good thing to do if you don't know what the heck you are doing!! The fact that you are asking this most likely means that you are unqualified to do this and will ruin your computer if you tried.
