Is it possible to change my processor?

Hello

I want to ask if I change my processor safely

Like my files will not be erased or deleted

and all of my setting will still be there

like if i have win vista SP1 SP 1 will still be there

and my user accounts and all of my programs will still be there

if it is possible, pls tell me the exact

procedure on how to install a new processor

and where in the motherboard is the processor?

pls also tell me how am i gonna take it out of my com without harming the PCIs it possible to change my processor?Yes, you can. Here's how:

1. Unplug ANY cables in the back of your computer. I know it's a major pain to put them back in, but then, that's life.

2. Bring your computer to an open space such as a living room, and for safety, do three things: 1. Place it sideways on top of a plank, 2. Wrap a piece of wire around your pinky finger tightly and wrap the other end around one of the screws in an outlet, and 3. Wear plastic gloves. YOU DON'T WANT TO SHOCK THE MOTHERBOARD! ALSO, DO NOT PUT THE END OF THE WIRE IN THE SOCKET, WRAP IT AROUND ONE OF THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SOCKET TO THE WALL!

3. Remove the side of the computer. If it won't slide out, don't force it! Turn it over and try the other side. Only one of them will open, usually the left side when you face the computer head on. For more help, check your computer's user manual.

4. There should be a square block sticking up in the middle of the motherboard. VERY CAREFULLY unlatch it and put it aside. There should be a small metal square underneath. Do the same thing with it as the cube.

5. Again, VERY CAREFULLY unpack the new CPU you bought over the Internet. Following the instructions that came with it, put it where the old CPU was.

6. Replace the side of the computer, bring back to where you use it, and replug all the cables.

IF YOU MESS THIS UP AND RUIN YOUR COMPUTER, YOU HAVE NO GROUNDS TO SUE ME!

By the way, a good place to buy computer parts cheaply is

I AM NOT DOING THIS JUST TO ADVERTISE NEWEGG!

There is no soldering, micro or not, involved. Almost everything just pops together(albeit delicately). I don't know what Zosh was thinking.

Lastly, to borrow a word from otrcomputing, you'll need to check whether the CPU you're going to buy matches your motherboard before a purchase. Is it possible to change my processor? This is generally inadvisable but yes your files etc. are fine because they are on the HD. tbh i think if youre changing the processor and therefore more then likely the motherboard you might be better off just starting to build from scratch or just buy a new PCIs it possible to change my processor?the best bet for you is take it to a proIs it possible to change my processor? You can try but the chances of success are very slim. All of the computer's components are configured to work with the processor that is installed. Removing it is going to be awfully trick and involve some very precise micro-soldering. Like I said, you'll probably fry something and end up replacing the entire motherboard.

Just sell the computer and get a faster one.Is it possible to change my processor?Changing a processor is easy enough in a Desktop but really very hard in a laptop.

If you have a desktop it sits under the big heatsink/fan in the top left of your motherboard. Pop off the heatsink (all attach in different ways), lift the processor securing leaver, remove the processor, pop in a new one apply some thermal paste and then attach the new heatsink and fan.

You may need to re-activate your copy of windows but that is usually only the case if you swap out the motherboard.

Make sure the processor you buy is the right socket type for your motherboard, your motherboard will only accept the right type of processor.
