If you have LGA775 right now - then yes, you can just swap CPUs, if you have a 445 socket or 447 - then, I believe, you are .. out of luck, need new mobo. Check the socket, and make sure your motherboard is compatible with dual core procs, not all of them are!How can I keep my computer but change the processor from Pentium 4 to Dual Core? You would have to have a system board that has the right socket to fit a dualcore processor. Most do not. But check the seb site of the manufacturer of your board.

If the board will not take a Dual Core, then you would have to switch both the board and the processor (and possibly the memory depending on if it will fit the new board). But you could keep everything else. How can I keep my computer but change the processor from Pentium 4 to Dual Core?Depends on the motherboard you have now, check the socket number of your mother board or CPU u have now and see if its compatible with the Dual Core. If its not your gonna need a new motherboard and if you get a new motherboard you need to reformat your entire computer then you will probobly need new RAM and maybe a new Video Card.
